Our data and hardware destruction methods meet the recommendations detailed in HMG IA Standard No. 5 - Secure Sanitisation of Protectively Marked or Sensitive Information, Issue 3.0, March 2009; and CESG Manual S, “Guidance on Secure Sanitisation and Disposal – Issue 2.0”, September 2007.
This service compiles a comprehensive list of electronic assets on site to ascertain what hardware and software is being disposed of. This allows you to appropriately sign off equipment from your asset register, whilst giving your IT managers information on software licenses available for reallocation or deletion. It also allows Sims to work with you to discern the most appropriate disposal strategy.

Sims operates Blancco® Data Cleaner (BDC). Using specialist rigs, brought to your site, we are able to securely destroy the data on up to 1,000 hard drives a day.
BDC is approved to the UK Government's IMG IA Standard No. 5, the most stringent data destruction standard in the world and also complies with US Department of Defense standards.
Onsite data erasure using Blancco® Data Cleaner is also available to be implemented, in remote sites anywhere in the world using the Sims ICT Asset Recovery Services' remote site service.
A portable degausser is also available to ensure data is destroyed on hard drives and data tapes. This uses very powerful electromagnetic fields to destroy all data on magnetic storage devices.
Two electronic data devices - one prior to shredding, one in fragments following shredding
This is a dedicated service that travels to your site to physically destroy data bearing items such as compact discs, data-tapes and hard drives. An 18 tonne truck houses this specialist machinery that can granulate data units down to flakes less than six millimetres in size. This ensures the secure destruction of any data held on the item and provides you with an opportunity to witness the destruction.
This service can be combined with a secure media bin, allowing you to safely collect and store data bearing items until it becomes cost-effective to call in the shredder service.
The combination of all of these services allows Sims ICT Asset Recovery Services to provide the complete and secure decommissioning of large storage arrays or of complete data centres. Full reporting is available on the entire decommissioning process from data and hardware destruction to an inventory of all materials removed from your site.
Once data or hardware has been securely destroyed at your site, Sims Recycling Solutions will then transport the equipment or shredded materials directly to one of our processing centres.
We operate a policy of ensuring the vehicle is fully accompanied for the duration of the journey. All vehicles are GPS tracked and where necessary we can operate a “no-stopping” policy. The drivers of our vehicles are all security cleared with full background checks completed.
