Sims Recycling Solutions seeks to exceed European environmental standards where possible. This commitment is reflected in the region’s achievement of ISO 14001 Environmental Management accreditation at every site. All business processes have environmental impacts and risks. We believe that those implications should be routinely managed as part of the business as much as any other business process.

Sims Recycling Solutions has a core vision to achieve a Zero Harm Workplace through the effective management of safety and occupational health at all sites.

We aim to shape employee behaviour towards health and safety, supported by a strong risk based safety management system and the provision of fundamentally safe operating assets and infrastructure.

All established Sims Recycling Solutions UK facilities and all continental Europe sites hold the OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health, Safety and Assessment System standard certification. Our Bergkamen site in Germany was the first European organisation outside of the UK to gain OHSAS 18001 accreditation - the other 5 continental Europe sites have subsequently followed.

Sims' European division achieved a 50% reduction in the All Accident Frequency Rate (AAFR) between 2008 and 2010.
