
Sims Recycling Solutions is the electronics recycling division of the world’s largest metals recycling company, Sims Metal Management Limited. The business was established in 1917 by Albert Sims, an Australian-based recycled metals dealer and has grown to over 260 operations in five continents employing over 6,300 people. In fiscal year 2011, global turnover exceeded €6.5bn.
In 2002, Sims Recycling Solutions was started in the UK to address the growing issue of e-waste. Following natural growth and a number of mergers and acquisitions, the business now operates from over 50 sites on five continents.
In Europe, the company has 25 operations in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and the UK, with partnerships in 10 other European countries. These include specialised CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) processing plants in Echt, Netherlands and Ellesmere Port, UK and a toner cartridge recycling plant in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
The following electronics recycling brands have now merged fully into Sims Recycling Solutions in Europe: Mirec (several countries); Lifecycle Services (UK); Device (Netherlands, Czech Republic and Poland); ergoTrade (Germany and Hungary); Metwork and Metrade (Austria). February 2011: Metrade Handelsgesellschaft mbH and its subsidiary company, Metwork Aufbereitungs GmbH. This has allowed Sims to expand its electronic recycling capabilities into Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia.
March 2011: Dutch based Device and German based ergoTrade, allowing Sims to expand its Lifecycle Services proposition further into the Dutch and Germany markets, whilst entering the new markets of Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
October 2011: S3 Interactive, a specialist company offering repair and refubishment services of a range of mobile technology devices such as mobile phones, smart phones, Mp3 players and tablet computers.
Sims Recycling Solutions places great emphasis on environmentally friendly processes, evidenced by ISO 14001 Environmental Management System accreditation at each European site.

Around 42 of Sims Metal Management Limited’s 260 global metal recycling facilities are based in Europe. In addition to their metal recycling focus, many are collection points for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) for regional Sims Recycling Solutions processing plants.
